150 Muscle Quantity at C3 And/or L3 on Routine Trauma Series Computed Tomography Correlate with Brain Frailty and Clinical Frailty Scale: A Cross-Sectional Study

چکیده

Abstract Background Sarcopenia is increasingly recognised to impact the quality of life and patient outcomes. The relationship with brain frailty unknown. Objectives Assess if muscle mass at C3 correlates L3 on routine trauma imaging. for associations between muscle-mass, brain-frailty, Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) Method Routine trauma-series CT scans were retrospectively analysed patients aged ≥16-years-old admitted Queen-Elizabeth-Hospital in January2020. Paravertebral, sternocleidomastoid, total cross-sectional-area (CSA) (C3-SMM), psoas CSA (TPA), (L3-SMM), adipose calculated. Brain-frailty scores calculated assessing leukoaraiosis, cerebral atrophy, old vascular lesions/infarcts. CFS was from clinical notes. We assessed correlation against age, CFS, brain-frailty using Pearson’s correlations. Results included 111 this study (mean age 49, SD 25.6; 65.8% female). C3-SMM strongly correlated L3-SMM (r=0.746, p<0.001). Paravertebral sternocleidomastoid (paravertebral: r=0.814, p<0.001; sternocleidomastoid: TPA L3- SMM (r=0.800, Sternocleidomastoid both negatively moderately (sternocleidomastoid: r=−0.460, TPA: r=−0.468, p<0.001), r=−0.414, r=−0.431, r=−0.395, r=−0.436, Adipose did not correlate or muscle-mass. Conclusions Muscle-mass relates muscle-mass L3. trauma-imaging associated brain-frailty.

Identifying frailty: do the Frailty Index and Groningen Frailty Indicator cover different clinical perspectives? a cross-sectional study

BACKGROUND Early identification of frailty is important for proactive primary care. Currently, however, there is no consensus on which measure to use. Therefore, we examined whether a Frailty Index (FI), based on ICPC-coded primary care data, and the Groningen Frailty Indicator (GFI) questionnaire identify the same older people as frail. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional, observational s...

Perceived frailty and measured frailty among adults undergoing hemodialysis: a cross-sectional analysis

BACKGROUND Frailty, a validated measure of physiologic reserve, predicts adverse health outcomes among adults with end-stage renal disease. Frailty typically is not measured clinically; instead, a surrogate-perceived frailty-is used to inform clinical decision-making. Because correlations between perceived and measured frailty remain unknown, the aim of this study was to assess their relationsh...

Fried phenotype of frailty: cross-sectional comparison of three frailty stages on various health domains

BACKGROUND The population ageing in most Western countries leads to a larger number of frail older people. These frail people are at an increased risk of negative health outcomes, such as functional decline, falls, institutionalisation and mortality. Many approaches are available for identifying frailty among older people. Researchers most often use Fried and colleagues' description of the frai...

Frailty and mortality in dialysis: evaluation of a clinical frailty scale.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Frailty is associated with poor outcomes for patients on dialysis; however, previous studies have not taken into account the severity of frailty as a predictor of outcomes. The purpose of this study was to assess if there was an association between the degree of frailty and mortality among patients on incident dialysis. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS A...

Depressive Symptoms and Physical Frailty in Older Adults With Chronic Heart Failure: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Depressive symptoms and physical frailty have been reported to be predictive of adverse outcomes in individuals with heart failure (HF). Depressive symptoms could be a predisposing factor of physical frailty in older adults. Despite the high prevalence of HF, few studies on the relationship between these two factors have been performed in older adults with HF. To identify the relationship betwe...
